Help & Support
How can we help?
Answers to common questions about installing Beam, granting permissions, connecting, and managing your account. Still stuck? We’re one email away.
Getting started
How do I install Beam?+
Download the Mac app, open it, and the first-run wizard walks you through granting Screen Recording and Accessibility. It takes under a minute. Then sign in with Apple, Google, or a one-time email code.
Which devices can I use?+
Any Mac can act as a host. You can connect from another Mac, an iPad, or an iPhone. A Windows host is in beta. You only need to install the app on the machines you want to reach and the devices you want to control them from.
Do I need an account on every device?+
Yes — sign in with the same account on each device. Your trusted hosts then appear automatically, with no IP addresses or port forwarding to configure.
Permissions
Why does Beam need Screen Recording and Accessibility?+
Screen Recording lets the host mirror its display to you. Accessibility lets your keyboard, mouse, and Apple Pencil control the remote Mac. Beam never records or uploads your screen — frames stream directly between your devices.
I granted a permission but Beam still says it’s missing.+
macOS sometimes needs the app to relaunch after a permission change. Fully quit Beam (⌘Q) and reopen it. Beam also shows a banner with a button that takes you straight to the right System Settings pane.
Connecting
How do I connect to my Mac?+
Open Beam on the device you’re controlling from, pick the host from your list, and connect. Choose Control to drive it or Observe to watch only.
What’s the difference between a direct and relay connection?+
Beam prefers a direct peer-to-peer path for the lowest latency, and falls back to an encrypted TURN relay only when a direct path isn’t possible. The session always shows which one you’re on.
Can I reach Windows, Linux, or network gear?+
Yes. Beam has built-in RDP, SSH, and VNC clients, so one install reaches Windows servers, Linux desktops, Raspberry Pis, and more — alongside Beam-to-Mac sessions.
Account & billing
How do I manage my plan and invoices?+
From your Account page on remotebeam.online, open Billing to see your plan, update your payment method, and download invoices. Beam is free during the private beta — paid plans switch on at launch.
How do I delete my account?+
In the app, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account, or use Delete Account on your web Account page. Deletion is immediate and permanently removes your account and associated data.
Privacy & security
Is my session encrypted?+
Yes. Media travels over WebRTC with mandatory DTLS-SRTP encryption, end-to-end between your devices. We don’t store your screen, audio, clipboard, or files server-side.
Who can connect to my Mac?+
Only devices signed in to your account, and every inbound session prompts you to Allow, Deny, or Block. A menu-bar indicator turns red whenever your Mac is being shared, and you can revoke any device’s trust at any time.
